DYAN DUNSMOOR-FARLEY – Facilitator BMus, MAIS, PhD(c)

Dyan Dunsmoor-Farley is a senior executive who specializes in strategic planning, evaluation, policy development and public engagement. Her work focuses on addressing issues across the spectrum of homelessness, mental health and addiction, and public and community health. Prior to starting Wave Consulting in 2003, Dyan had a 25-year public service career culminating in 10 years as an assistant deputy minister with the Ministries of Health, Children and Families, and Women’s Equality. She also worked as a policy analyst and strategic planning manager for the Ministry of Social Services and Housing.

Dyan has served on a number of boards and commissions. She is the former National Co-Chair of the Canadian Health Network Advisory Board, a past member of the British Columbia Forensic Psychiatric Services Commission, and the Conference Chair and Moderator for Victoria 2020. Dyan is currently a founding member of the Gabriola Health and Wellness Collaborative.

Dyan’s academic and research interests address the impacts of globalization on governance and citizen action in small BC communities.

CHLOË STRAW – Project manager, facilitator & recorder BA (English) and BEd (Curriculum and Instruction)

Chloë is a project manager, community development facilitator and certified adult educator. She has managed large-scale projects, including provincial consultation and engagement projects for senior levels of government. Chloë’s work is grounded in the principles of appreciative inquiry, adult learning and asset-based community development. Her approach focuses on creating communities for learning and dialogue that are supportive, safe and stimulating.

Chloë has led community engagement and strategic planning projects in the fields of health and well-being, economic development, social justice, arts and culture and affordable housing. She brings a background in cross-cultural communication and has developed policy, curriculum and content—including learning programs and training manuals—for the Vancouver School Board’s Continuing Education Department, the Canadian Centre for Community Renewal, the Ministry of Food & Agriculture in northern Ghana, Engineers without Borders Canada, the Nanaimo Art Gallery and the Gabriola Island Recreation Society.

Chloë is also a co-founder of Close to the Sun Productions, a small media production company specializing in high quality web videos and marketing strategies, where she produces videos that serve to leverage the impacts her clients are having.
